"Women have always fascinated me. This album is a chance for me to express that fascination, intimately, with the whole world...one song at a time," confesses the artist about the new CD. What better way to put down new songs in style than in a Grammy-winning recording studio in Manhattan? Wil Key and friends recently laid down piano and vocal tracks at Stadium Red in the heart of Harlem -the same studio used by top artists Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Eminem and Yo Yo Ma. The session was engineered by Ryan West (Beyonce, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre) and featured 4 new songs from the forthcoming Wil Key CD including "Rising Of A Star" and "Butterfly."
"But A Woman" Model Search
We received over 120 entries from models wanting to be appear on the cover of the upcoming new Wil Key CD "But A Woman." From the entries, 15 ladies were selected as finalists to appear on the finals show Friday Jan. 7, 2011 at the Crossroads Theater. If you missed it, you really missed something special. The show featured some of the area's top musicians, female poets and a "sneak peak" set from Wil Key performing songs from the soon-to-be released, fem-focused CD project.
Satisfy My Soul
Clearly, Wil Key put a lot of work into his latest effort, from singing and playing most of the instruments to tapping five-time Grammy nominee Ryan West (Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Rashann Patterson) to engineer the disc, which was recorded in New York, Los Angeles and Denver. -Jon Solomon, WESTWORD MAGAZINE
